Besides many traditional long-standing coffees, when coming to Hue, visitors can also enjoy salted coffee – the combination of sweet, bitter, and salty flavors due to the mix of coffee, fermented milk and refined salt.
This drink comes along with condensed milk at the bottom, a layer of fermented milk with salt and a traditional aluminum coffee filter to create an unique flavor. Salt is used as a neutralizer, enhancing the sweetness of milk and moderating the bitterness of coffee
The idea of salted coffee was introduced by Huong and her husband 10 years ago, after coming across a love story of a couple. On the first date, feeling overly anxious, the boy requested to add abit of salt to his coffee. From there throughout their marriage, the wife makes her husband a cup of coffee with a little salt everyday. Only when the husband passed away did the wife know that he never actually liked salted coffee, yet, always enjoy the ones his wife made him, because it reminds him of all the love and beautiful memories they shared together.
Inspired from that story, Huong and her husband began to experiment with brewing and bringing this unique coffee into their business. They constantly listened to every feedback from customers to perfect their recipe. Nowsaday, their coffee shop sells 500-700 cups of salted coffee everyday and has become one of the very signiture in Hue cuisines
